Alert Channels

Alert channels are how UptimeWiz notifies you when a monitor goes down or recovers. Each monitor can have multiple channels configured — all of them receive both DOWN and UP alerts when the monitor's status changes.

How alerts work

When UptimeWiz confirms a monitor is down (after consensus re-verification from multiple regions), it immediately sends a DOWN alert to all configured channels. When the monitor recovers on a subsequent check, a UP alert is sent automatically. No manual acknowledgment is needed.

Email alerts

1. Open a monitor's settings and scroll to Alert Channels
2. Click Add Channel and select Email
3. Enter the email address to notify
4. Click Save

Alert emails include the monitor name, URL, current status (DOWN or UP), the time the change was detected, and the detecting region. You can add multiple email addresses by creating multiple email channels.

Slack alerts

First, create an incoming webhook in your Slack workspace:

1. Go to api.slack.com/apps and click Create New App → From scratch
2. Name it (e.g. UptimeWiz Alerts) and select your workspace
3. In the app settings, click Incoming Webhooks in the left sidebar
4. Toggle Activate Incoming Webhooks to On
5. Click Add New Webhook to Workspace, select your alert channel, and click Allow
6. Copy the webhook URL (starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/...)

Then add it to your monitor:

1. Open the monitor's settings → Alert Channels → Add Channel → Slack
2. Paste the webhook URL
3. Click Save

Discord alerts

1. Open the Discord channel where you want alerts
2. Go to channel settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook
3. Name it and copy the webhook URL
4. Open the monitor's settings → Alert Channels → Add Channel → Discord
5. Paste the webhook URL and click Save

Testing your channels

To confirm a channel is working, temporarily point a non-critical monitor at a URL you control and take it offline briefly. You can also verify webhook URLs directly using your Slack or Discord app's test tools before pasting them into UptimeWiz.

Multiple channels per monitor

You can mix and match channels on a single monitor — for example, email the on-call engineer and post to a Slack channel simultaneously. Add as many channels as you need; all of them receive every alert.
